Here at Bakers we have been holding celebrations throughout 2011 to commemorate our 75th Birthday.
James Baker, the current MD’s father, started the business on the 11th November 1936, making us 75 on a particularly memorable date 11/11/11! For a full history please see the About Us section.
In order for our customers to help celebrate with us we have had a number of promotions running throughout the year including, amongst many,11% discount on Private Hire for local schools and £7.50 off our Coach Holidays.
We held an Open House event on the 2nd October following the theme ‘Celebrating Passenger Transport’. Visitors to the Coach Travel Centre at Victoria Business Park saw ‘behind-the-scenes’ aspects of the operation of this family run business along with its history and development over seven decades. People viewed the array of vehicles on show which had featured throughout our history, right through to the modern day with the Diesel Electric Double Deck Buses now running on the X1 service (Hanley to Stafford Hospital). It was a success with many people from the local community and further a field coming to support our efforts and raising £274.00 for Douglas Macmillan, a local hospice.
Our 75th year culminated in Birthday celebrations and the Official Launch of the Diesel Electric Double Deck Buses on Friday 11th November 2011. Invited to the day held at our depot were clients, suppliers, local dignitaries and members of the press. The event went off with the pop of a bottle of sparkling wine (non- alcoholic of course!) and short speech by Phil Baker, the MD, on 75th years of Cars, Coaches and Buses, drawing on the importance of sustainability to all businesses with the aim of longevity. Time was also taken on Remembrance Day to think of all those who had given the ultimate sacrifice for their country, lead by Rev John Fisher the local Minister.
As a final act in the name of our 75th year bakerbus donated 11% of on bus takings received on the 11th November to the Royal British Legion. This totalled £350.00.
