Three Volvo B5RLH Hybrids with Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 2 body work entered service on 17th October on our premier route X1 between Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford Beaconside.
The route was started in 2004 at the request of Staffordshire University and, over time, has developed into a partnership including London Midland Trains as a rail replacement service. Initially, the service operated with midi buses and, over the last 2 years, has grown into full single deck vehicles and many times last year was “bursting at the seams”. Three double deckers have been introduced for this year.

Garry Burgoyne has joined Bakers Coaches as Engineering Commercial Manager for the Biddulph-based, coach hire, holiday travel and local bus service operator.
Formerly fleet engineer at D&G Buses, Stoke on Trent, Garry Burgoyne has over 30 years experience in service support within the public service vehicles sector. Gary started as an apprentice with Stevenson Motors of Uttoxeter and he has been employed by bus operators in the North Staffs area, moving to PMT as garage manager and latterly, the First group where he was a Vehicle Inspector .

“Wear your poppy with pride,” say the staff and drivers of Baker Coaches. For the Biddulph company is a staunch supporter of The Royal British Legion charity and has always had a collection point at the Coach Travel Centre for staff and customers.
In addition to the staff, the bus and coach fleet will also be sporting ‘Poppy’ graphics to help increase awareness of the appeal and the debt we owe to all the servicemen who have made such great sacrifices for our nation.

Bakers were among hundreds of British coach operators that mobilised for a pan-European transfer of passengers stranded by the ash cloud and subsequent temporary airspace closures. It all began on the 20th March following the volcanic eruption beneath a glacier in Iceland.

Bakers Coaches took gold in winning a prestigious contract from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). The ODA are the public body responsible for the construction of infrastructure for the forthcoming 2012 Games. Bakers' brief was to provide eight coaches, including two mobility vehicles, at the 'Open House Weekend' public tours of the London Olympic Park.

Bakers Coaches of Biddulph has signed an agreement to take over the business operations of Niddries Coaches, a family travel firm based in Middlewich, Cheshire from 1st November 2007. This had intended to take place in Spring 2008 but due to the recent fire at the Niddries premises, this has been brought forward.

The company has won the Operator Training of the Year, category in the 2007 Route One Operator Excellence Awards. These were presented at a prestige dinner held at the National Motor Cycle Museum on 10 October, in conjunction with the Coach and Bus Exhibition.
