Garry Burgoyne has joined Bakers Coaches as Engineering Commercial Manager for the Biddulph-based, coach hire, holiday travel and local bus service operator. 

Formerly fleet engineer at D&G Buses, Stoke on Trent, Garry Burgoyne has over 30 years experience in service support within the public service vehicles sector. Gary started as an apprentice with Stevenson Motors of Uttoxeter and he has been employed by bus operators in the North Staffs area, moving to PMT as garage manager and latterly, the First group where he was a Vehicle Inspector .

Commenting on the appointment, managing director, Phil Baker said, “We are very fortunate to have someone of Garry’s background and expertise, come on board.”

“We are building up our capacity to offer maintenance support services for third-party operators. Garry is a perfect fit for us and he will play an important part in helping to make Bakers Coaches a regional centre of excellence for the support of coaches and passenger service vehicles.”

Since joining Bakers Coaches Garry has initiated a major review of the current workshop procedures, stores scheduling and spares procurement.

Drivers complete a routine check list on their vehicle status before and after each shift. Defects are then collated so they can be dealt with as the vehicles come in for their routine three or four weekly services.  

“Having the right spare parts available requires careful planning,” adds Garry.

“It’s about using working capital and capacity most efficiently. By tracking lead times we can aim to have the right parts available without locking up our cash in excessive stock holdings.”
